Turtle Perversion

This piece of concept art was done during my internship as a game artist for Castix Studio, in development of their game Medieval Lands. It is supposed to be a "perversion" of a normal Turtle. Unlike the lion, it does not play on a concept like pride, but rather the inherent slowness associated with turtles and tortoises. Rather than being an immmobile looking creature, the aggressively designed legs imply agility and the ability for movement.

This was a several step process before getting to the final product. This includes research, three stages of sketches (thumbnails, refined, and mockup), texture and color testing, and multiple checks through the final illustration.

This piece was my second in professional concept art. Through the process, I learned extensively about the role of concept/game artists, the game development pipeline, and professional skills in general. In this one specifically, I was given a lot more freedom in symbolism and design choices, which allows it to be a more different from the original creature.
